Eine prima Neuigkeit auf dem Satelitenmarkt dürfte unter anderem auch alle Langfahrtsegler interessieren. Löst sie doch ein Problem, dass jeder Livaboard hat, wenn die Marinas mal wieder durch nicht funktionierende W-Lans oder zu teuere Angebote "glänzen":!!
SES Astra hat für das kommende Jahr den Start eines günstigen, breitbandigen Internetzugangs ausschließlich über Satelit angekündigt. !!
Dies ist für jeden interessant, dem grosse Systeme zu aufwändig oder teuer sind, wie Haushalte, kleinere Unternehmen. Dieser Triple-Play-Dienst genannte Zugang wird das telefonieren über Internet (VoIP) und den Empfang von Internetfernsehen (IPTV) sowie Video- on - Demand Dienste ermöglichen.!!

Newtec liefert die Technik, die nach Angaben von SES Astra die Herstellung des zughörigen Moduls als auch den Aufbau der Satelitenplattform veranwortet.!!
Man wird eine volle Abdeckung des Dienstes voraussetzen dürfen, da der Rückkanal auch über die Satelitenschüssel des Kunden läuft. Angaben zur Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit liegen noch nicht vor, der Rückkanal wird aber vermutlich 64 bzw. 128 KBit/s nicht überschreiten. !!
Bislang waren Satelitenrückkanäle nur mit kostenintensivem Zubehör machbar, wenngleich sie natürlich schon länger technisch möglich sind.!!
In Zusammenarbeit mit der Europäischen Weltraumorganisation ESA wurde nun eine auch für Privathaushalte und kleine Unternehmen finanziell tragbare Lösung entwickelt.!!
Astra2Connect wird laut SES Astra voraussichtlich im Laufe des ersten Quartals 2007 starten und hauptsächlich Haushalte in Europa versorgen, die über keinen terrestrischen Breitband-Internetzugang verfügen. !!

Der User muss über ein Newtec-Modelm und einen interaktiven LNB für seine Schüssel verfügen.!!
Momentan steht ein Preis von zusammen 250,-- Euro im Raum, das dürfte sich allerdings noch senken lassen.!!
Astra2Connect wird von SES Astra über Partner angeboten werden, die ihrerseits freie Hand in ihrer Preisgestaltung haben werden.!!
Man schätzt den Preis für eine Astra2Connect-Flatrate - abhängig von der Datenrate - zwischen 30,- und 50,- Euro. !!
Astra2Connect-Kunden werden mit einen Downstream von maximal 1.024 KBit/s und einem Upstream von maximal 128 KBit/s an das Internet angebunden. Es werden auch kleinere Pakete mit 512/96 KBit/s sowie 256/64 KBit/s zur Verfügung stehen. !!
Obwohl man von einer Flatrate mit unlimitierter Online-Zeit und unbegrenztem Download-Volumen ausgehen kann, setzt der Anbieter dennoch eine Nutzung voraus, die im Rahmen bleibt, wozu z.B. Tauschbörsen nicht unbedingt zählen. !!

Launch of a satellite-based interactive and low-cost broadband internet access!!
SES ASTRA, an SES GLOBAL company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), will launch ASTRA2Connect, a fully satellite-based interactive and low-cost broadband internet access to serve the residential market, the small and home offices as well as small and medium enterprises.
